Here's an interesting interview that Dick Cavett conducted in 1980 on horror. His panel includes Stephen King, Ira Levin, George Romero, and Peter Straub. Cavett had no knowledge of the material, it seems, but that doesn't mean he was ever dismissive. You can see in this discussion that he was not only curious but fascinated. It's a worthwhile hour.
