Hot damn! Who has two thumbs and met his deadline with two minutes to spare? This guy!

I just completed work on my "Gorilla of the Gasbags" story, a pastiche of Edgar Rice Burrough, Joseph Conrad, H. G. Wells, and Robert Louis Stevenson, among others.  Nothing like completing a work to bolster one's sense of accomplishment.

Going to let it sit for a day or two, and then I'll make some final tweaks before I take it to Turkey City this weekend.

Did I how frellin' pumped I am?  Well, yeah, I'm stoked.  So there.

At this point, the year's half over.  Just six more months before Mayans become passe.

I've decided to participate in Six Sentence Sunday this week, in no small part to help get me motivated to finish "The Savage Solution: A Romance" on time.  And I've also promised a friend that he could read a rough draft on Wednesday, so I'm really going to have to work to meet it.  No pressure.

So, without further ado, here are six sentences from a tale inspired by the cover artwork for the long-lost "The Gorilla of the Gasbags."  Enjoy.

As the company man reddened Meriem smiled.  Several nights before, at the trading station, he had visited Meriem while Jack assisted the captain with some of the ship’s repairs.  He derided Jack and his father with comparisons to monkeys in suits, which she rebuffed with her always-quick wit.  (“You are aware, I’m sure, that monkeys have tails, while apes do not.”)  He did not expect it, nor did he expect, when he made his advance on her person, the small hand to so tightly grip his throat or the knee beneath her hobble skirt to make him so uncomfortable.  He had avoided them both since, even when they inspected the abandoned river hut and took on the firewood they found there.
